Alternatives if you’re not eligible
If you’re not eligible for The Mary Seacole programme, the NHS Leadership Academy runs a range of alternative programmes for colleagues at every level. If you’re aspiring to or are new (in post for less than two years) to a leadership role, we’d recommend you look at our Edward Jenner programme.
If you want to talk about your development needs, please contact our friendly team on 0113 322 5699 or email [email protected].
“I’d done lots of training before but the difference with Mary Seacole is that it allows you to go back into work the very next day and observe how things can change. It translates so well into the day job. I also found the cross-system learning element of it very valuable – you can mix with other people outside your own environment.”

“It’s built my confidence in leading a project and leading others and myself to continue to learn new skills and push boundaries. When taking the lead, you develop a better understanding of others and your surroundings, especially political matters. I’m aware that I can’t change the capital P in political health matters, but I can look at the small p and prepare staff and service users better to deal with an ever-changing healthcare system.”
